It’s been a mellow week here in my world. Summer kicked in
and my body, mind and spirit have been on a mission to heal and recharge. I’ve
spent most of my mornings surfing and most of the afternoons playing and
working on music here at home. I’ve also been hanging out with friends,
catching up after so many months of not being in town for more than a week. On
Wednesday I had lunch with my good friend Beth who was visiting LA. Beth owns an extraordinary and
inspiring t-shirt company called Rain Tees and what I love about it is that
behind a great product (the t-shirts are sooooo comfy and cute) there’s an
amazing story. Rain Tees goes to third world rain forest communities, gives
children art supplies and asks them to draw what they see happening around
them. Beth then takes these drawings and prints them on 100% organic cotton
t-shirts. Every tee tells the story of a child living with deforestation by
featuring their artwork and thoughts.
Not only that but for every tee sold a tree is planted in one of my
favorite places in the world- Manuel Antonio Costa Rica through the non-profit
“Kids saving the rain forest”. Scientists say that by protecting our tropical
rain forests we can halt climate change. This is why the work of Rain Tees focuses
directly on what is happening in these endangered regions around the
world. I grew up in one of the
most beautiful places in the world and more and more I see its natural Rain
Forest richness being exploited to the point of imbalance and demise. So let’s

Hola Todos,
A sido una semana bastante tranquila por estos lados. El
verano finalmente entró y con los nuevos rayos de sol mi cuerpo, mente y
espíritu han tenido solo una misión, recargarse de buenas energías. He pasado casi todas las mañanas
surfiando y en las tardes me dedico a trabajar un poco en nueva música aqui en
mi casa. Tambien he pasado ratos muy bonitos con amigos a quienes llevaba mucho
sin ver. El miércoles fui a almorzar con mi amiga Beth quien estaba visitando
Los Angeles. Beth es dueña de una compañia de t-shirts que se llama Rain Tees y
lo que me encanta de su marca es no solo el producto en si (las t-shirts son
comodisimas y super lindas) sino tambien la historia que hay detras. Rain Tees
se va a comunidades en selvas tropicales lluviosas y dona materiales escolares
y artesanales a los niños de estas comunidades. Una vez alli, Beth les pide a
los niños que dibujen lo que ven sucediendo a su alrededor, imágenes que una
vez terminadas son impresas en t-shirts de algodón 100% orgánico y que muestran
la deforestación que ocurre en estas zonas. Además por cada t-shirt vendida, la
organizacion “Kids saving the rain forest” planta un árbol en uno de mis
lugares favoritos en el mundo Manuel Antonio- Costa Rica. Los científicos dicen
que al proteger nuestras selvas tropicales lluviosas estamos ayudando a parar
el calentamiento global, por eso Rain Tees se ha concentrado en proteger y
ayudar a estas zonas en particular. Yo crecí en uno de los lugares mas bellos
del mundo y más y más veo que sus riquezas naturales de sus selvas tropicales
son explotadas hasta llegar a un punto de desbalance y deterioro. Asi que

Wow I can’t believe it’s already been 2 weeks since my last
blog… I totally spaced last week not only on my website but on everything.
Things started to slow down for me at the beginning of the month and even more
so during the 4th of July holiday weekend. My body finally released
a lot of tension and exhaustion it had been holding on to. Yes…. I got sick, so
I had no other choice but to REST. For a whole week all I did was sleep, watch
movies (watched Breakfast @ Tiffany’s for the first time!), read, play piano,guitar and eventually the next thing I
knew… I was writing new material!!! It’s amazing how easily words and melodies
started pouring out of me. All those months traveling and promoting the album
fed me with so much inspiration that 5 days of “silence” at home was enough for
me to start like 10 ideas. Songwriting is such an interesting process…. I start
playing around with a musical idea and all of a sudden I lock into something
that feels right, and I start loving it. I’ll play with it for a while,
sometimes words sing themselves sometimes I search for them, sometimes words
don’t come at all..Then comes the
“I hate it” phase in which I just think that what I was just loving so much is
all of a sudden “crap” and so I stop working on it, but then I go back to
it after some time and I think to myself “this isn’t so bad” :) The cycle then repeats itself until I finally finish the song, although sometimes the song never gets finished. So it’s essentially a self-discovery process, kinda like looking at
myself in a mirror and learning to love my reflection.
I posted this link on my twitter a few days back but if you
haven’t seen it check it out… it’s about writing, creating, inspiration…it’s

Wow no puedo creer que ya pasaron 2 semanas desde mi último
blog. He andado medio perdida, no solo con mi página sino con todo! La agenda
se me empezó a aflojar a pricipios de mes y más aun durante el fin de semana
del 4 de Julio, el cual es feriado aquí en Estado Unidos. Mi cuerpo finalmente
tuvo la oportunidad de liberar tensión y cansancio que había acumulado durante
la primera mitad del año. Y pues si… me enfermé, asi que no tuve otra opción
mas que desacelerar mi ritmo y me vi forzada a descansar. Por una semana entera
lo único que hice fue dormir, ver películas (Vi el clásico Desayuno en
Tiffany’s por primera vez!), leer, tocar piano, guitarra, y derepente y sin
pensarlo mucho, comencé a escribir nuevo material!!! Fue increíble con la
facilidad que se me venían letras y música. Todos esos meses viajando y
promocionando el disco me alimentaron de tanta inspiración, que en 5 dîas de
“silencio” en casa, escribí como 10 nuevas ideas. Escribir canciones es para mi
un proceso muy interesante… comienzo a tocar ya sea piano o guitarra hasta que
alguna idea musical comienza a sentirse bien y entonces la toco por un rato
hasta que melodías comienzan a fluir. A veces las palabras se cantan
solas, a veces las tengo que buscar y a veces nunca aparecen.. Y luego viene el
periodo de “Odio Todo” en el cual lo que estoy creando me empieza a sonar
como “una basura”.. entonces dejo de trabajar en la canción… talvez días u
horas después la vuelvo a escuchar y me digo “bueno la verdad que no está tan
mal” :) El ciclo se repite hasta que finalmente termino la canción, aunque algunas canciones nunca las termino. Asi que escencialmente la escritura es para mi un proceso de auto-descubrimiento; es como verme
en el espejo y aprender a amar mi reflejo.

This week went by so fast… It felt like Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday was one whole long rehearsal. Check out a little video of it and some

Esta semana se me pasó rapidísimo… Lunes, Martes y Miércoles
se sintieron como un largo ensayo. Aquí en este pequeño video pueden ver un
poco de lo que fueron los ensayos y un poco del día del show camino al
escenario. Gracias a TODOS los que hicieron esto posible: a los productores del
programa, a los increíbles bailarines “All stars” -Lauren, Ade, Courtney, Mark,
Neil & Comfort-, a la extraordinaria coreógrafa –Mandy Moore- al grupo
técnico de SYTYCD y a todos en mi equipo.

21 June 2010 High School Musical and the Family Tree
Last month I spent about a week in Costa Rica promoting my
album… The whole week was truly special but probably one of my favorite
moments was a visit I did to my high school. I got to spend some time
with the students, play a few songs for them, answer some of their
questions and I also finally got to see the new music classroom that my
family donated in memory of grandfather. My abuelito Tobias Kader was
the singer of the family, he never did it professionally only for fun,
but you could find him on stage in every wedding reception and party he
ever went to. He enjoyed being in the spotlight singing as much as I do!
Abuelito gave me my first real piano when I was 12 years old, a
beautiful chocolate brown upright Yamaha. He always encouraged me to
study music and be the best in my field. I so wish he would’ve lived to
see me making my dream come true of putting my own album out, but I’m
sure he’s with the angels listening and singing along. His spirit will
always live through my music.
El mes pasado estuve haciendo la promoción de mi disco en Costa Rica
durante una semana. Fue una experiencia verdaderamente especial, y uno
de mis momentos favoritos, la visita al colegio donde estudié en la
infancia. Pude compartir con los estudiantes, interpretar algunas
canciones y contestar a sus preguntas. Además, conocer la nueva aula de
música donada por mi familia en memoria de mi abuelo. Mi abuelito Tobías
Kader fue el cantante de la familia. Nunca lo hizo profesionalmente,
pero amaba la música y cantaba en cualquier escenario, en fiestas y
matrimonios. Disfrutaba del “spotlight” tanto como yo! Fue quien me
regaló el primer piano a la edad de 12 años, un hermoso Yamaha upright
color chocolate y me alentó a estudiar música y a ser la mejor en mi
campo. Desearía que viviera para ver mi sueño hecho realidad de lanzar
un disco. Sin embargo, estoy segura, está entre ángeles escuchándolo y
cantando. Su espíritu vivirá por siempre en mi música.
12 June 2010 It wasn’t just the electric blue piano….
Here’s a little video of Thursday’s performance in Miami. I
was invited by the Latin Grammys to play an acoustic show as part of a series
of on going events and concerts that they’re hosting. It wasn’t just the electric blue piano….On Thursday night everything was electric: the people, the
place, the music, the energy.
